The Transilience Project

by Celeste M. Condit and L. Bruce Railsback

The Transilience Project is an effort to understand the characteristics of, rules governing, and potentials for the biosymbolic species, i.e. humans. The project hopes, presumes, and believes that such understandings will help the members of the species to better address both the social- and individual-level challenges that face us. We believe that humanity is remaking the world in ways that will exacerbate human unhappiness and pain, limit human development and growth, and exterminate many other marvelous species. We believe that these actions are due to the particular congeries of biological and symbolic characteristics of humans, but that these characteristics can be intentionally redirected, both at the social and the individual level.
