The main table can't show all the mineralogical information that we just saw, but the red diamonds on this diagram mark the cations that make simple oxides, and the blue diamonds mark the cations that form simple fluorides.

        Thus far, we've devoted all our attention this part of the table to the hard cations (cations will no outer-shell electrons). Let's expand our view . . . .
