We're preparing to leave Innsbruck as we look eastward and downstream from the Grenobler Brücke in eastern Innsbruck. The name of this bridge is appropriate to our view, because the buildings on the left are part of Innsbruck's Olympic Village district, built in part for the Olympic Winter Games that Innsbruck hosted in 1964 and 1976. Grenoble, in France, hosted the Winter Olympics in 1968 and so "bridged" the interval between Innsbruck's two events. Innsbruck has since repeatedly debated making another bid to host the Olympics, but financial concerns have dampened enthusiasm for hosting the games again.
