GEOL 4320/6320 Exercise 3: More simple log analysis

The government of Blockistan, a distant country, has become disenchanted with the productivity of the petroleum companies to which it has previously granted concessions.  It has therefore decided to try a working relationship with your company.  As part of this experiment, the Blockistani Ministry of Natural Resources has released to your company the logs of one well from the western portion of a potential lease area.  The logs include GR, resistivity, PE, density, and neutron porosity logs.  The logs have been marked with the tops of stratigraphic units commonly recognized in the region.

Your assignment is to examine these logs and write for your company's managers a statement of no more than 300 words reporting on the lithology and reservoir potential of the strata encountered by the well.  Your report should include a statement indicating your optimism or pessimism for finding a hydrocarbon accumulation or accumulations.

The log is available as both a pdf and jpeg file.  Your report, required of all students, is due at the beginning of class on Tuesday, October 4, 2011.
