Honors Interdisciplinary Field Program

Basic Rules and Regulations

We try to keep regulations to a minimum, and depend on common sense, courtesy, and non-confrontational communication to resolve problems. However, there are a few simple rules that must be agreed to by all participants in the program. These are indicated below. Also, it must be noted that this program is actually a class and the University of Georgia has a complete list of rules that students must abide by. Those rules apply to this class. Your signature on this form means that you understand the rules, and that you agree to abide by them. Failure to do so may result in expulsion from the class and trip termination. All participants must sign and return this contract or their acceptance will be revoked.

Use of Illegal Drugs - Anyone found using illegal drugs will be expelled from the class and sent home from the next bus station at the students cost, without refund. There are no warnings and there is no leniency!

Use of Alcohol - The legal drinking age, as designated by the University of Georgia Rules and Regulations, is twenty-one. Therefore, the program will operate under the established UGA guidelines for the duration of the trip. Since most of the program participants are below the age of twenty-one, we will run a "dry" camp, and alcohol shall not be consumed in the camp area. Use of fraudulent identification is prohibited.

Use of Tobacco Products - Use of tobacco in any form is not permitted in or around the vehicles, study tents, or kitchen/dining areas. In any conflict between users and non-users of tobacco, the rights of the non-users will take precedence. Also, smoking is prohibited whenever there is a danger of fire (i.e. outlawed by forest service due to dryness of landscape).

Safety - The safety of other members of the party must be the prime concern of everyone! Any individual who places other individuals at risk, physically or legally, as a result of unsafe behavior, or behavior in violation of instructions, is subject to penalties or expulsion, at the discretion of the Field Director. Risk is determined by individual that feels unsafe.

Academic Integrity - The Honors Interdisciplinary Field Program is a regular academic course sequence. The University of Georgia rules and regulations regarding academic integrity, as defined in the Student Handbook, will apply.

Cooperative Behavior - All participants in the Honors Interdisciplinary Field Program are expected to cooperate in performing assigned "housekeeping" tasks and to show reasonable courtesy and tolerance toward other participants and staff. Behavior which causes animosity and/or which disrupts the academic mission of the program cannot be tolerated. The instructors will make every effort to point out and correct such problems, should they arise. However, the Field Director retains final authority over the continued participation of all individuals in the program. If the director feels that the behavior of any individual is jeopardizing the program for others, and that this behavior is not correctable, he may, as a last resort, expel that individual from the program without refund.

Group Cohabitation - Due to the nature of the Program's living conditions, all participants and staff must be aware of individual rights of each participant and staff member. All participants and staff must treat each other with the utmost respect and courteous behavior in all situations. Cohabitation of two or more students and/or staff members, in sleeping arrangements or any other situations the Field Director deems unnecessary, is strictly prohibited. The Field Director reserves the right to judge each situation on an individual basis, and all decisions are final.

I have read the Honors Interdisciplinary Field Program Basic Rules and Regulations and agree to the rules and regulations specified therein;
