Dr. Sandra J. Wyld

Background

I was born and grew up in Urbana, Illinois.

I received a Bachelors of Science degree in Geology from the University of Illinois in 1982.

From there I went west, where I pursued graduate studies at the University of California, Berkeley, and received a Masters of Science degree in Geology in 1985.
Title of thesis: Geology of the western Jurassic belt, South Fork Trinity River area, Klamath Mountains, California" (168 pp.).

I continued graduate studies at Stanford University, from which I received a Ph.D. in 1992. Title of thesis: "Geology and geochronology of the Pine Forest Range, northwest Nevada: Stratigraphic, structural and magmatic history, and regional implications" (429 pp.). Abstract (PDF)

During the final completion of my doctoral thesis, from 1990-1991, I had a position of Visiting Assistant Professor and Research Associate in the Department of Geosciences at the University of Houston, Texas, where I taught Introductory Physical Geology.

From 1991-1996, I worked at Rice University, in Houston, Texas, in the position of Research Associate and Lecturer. Courses I taught there were in Structural Geology, Tectonic Evolution of North America, and Environmental Geology.

In September of 1996, I joined the faculty in the Department of Geology at the University of Georgia, as an Assistant Professor.

In May of 2002, I was promoted to Associate Professor with tenure, at the University of Georgia.
